Employment Rights Hub
The Employment Rights Hub
In the UK there are laws that protect you at work. These laws mean that your employer must treat you fairly. If your employer does not, then they may be breaking the law.
We provide free employment rights advice and support to Newham residents facing issues at work, helping you understand your rights and explore the options available to you.
We can provide support and guidance on:
- Pay and deductions including unpaid wages, minimum wage and unlawful deductions.
- Working hours such as breaks, flexible working and health and safety.
- Equality at work covering discrimination, harassment and disability rights.
- Job security including redundancy, notice periods and unfair dismissal.
- Leave and time off such as holidays, sick pay and family leave.
Remember: Some rights have strict time limits for making a claim, so it’s important to act quickly.
Unfair dismissal
“I was dismissed from my job after I reported witnessing my manager committing a criminal offence at work.
You may have a case for being unfairly dismissed. The law protects employees from being penalised for raising concerns or whistleblowing.
Disability discrimination
“I have a bad back and need a special chair.
You may have a case for disability discrimination. Employers must make reasonable adjustments, such as providing special equipment, to support employees with disabilities.
Pregnancy and maternity discrimination
“I returned from maternity leave to find my job given to someone else, and my new role pays less.
You may have a case for pregnancy and maternity discrimination. Employers cannot give your job to somebody else while you’re on maternity leave.
Remember: Some rights have strict time limits for making a claim, so it’s important to act quickly.
